About Maggie
I’m an Early Childhood and Elementary Learning and Literacy Specialist.
For the past 16 years, I’ve taught children in mainstream and special education preschools and elementary schools in Brooklyn, Los Angeles, and, most recently, New Haven, CT.
As an advocate and expert in language-based learning disabilities, I collaborate with independent schools to implement research-driven teaching methods and improve the quality and scope of their programs, ensuring they are inclusive and effective for a wide range of learners.
The part of the job I value most is working one-on-one and in small groups to provide targeted Orton Gillingham reading intervention to children with dyslexia and/or children who need additional support outside of the classroom to build their reading skills.
I’m also the co-founder of How Now, a reading company that publishes engaging and evidence-based books for beginning readers and provides consulting and professional development to educators and parents. Cat and Tad, our first volume in a series of decodable books for early readers, came out in November, 2024. (More on How Now here!)
I write a monthly newsletter for How Now with tips for parents, caregivers, and educators, which you can subscribe to here, and I regularly share this information on instagram and facebook as well.
